School Communication: At the end of each week, families should receive our weekly SharkMail newsletter. This includes highlights from the week, as well as important calendar items, events, and opportunities that are upcoming. This is our primary form of whole-school communication. If you are not receiving this newsletter, please let us know. If you ever need to talk with a teacher, counselor, administrator, or any other staff member, please reach out to them directly via phone (434-975-0599) or email.
Absent or Arriving Late?: Please contact Laura Saulle at LMSattendance@k12albemarle.org or call 434-975-0599. Feel free to leave a message if you get sent to voicemail.
Need to pick up your student early? Please come into the building to sign your child out in the Main Office.
School day:
Our school day is 9:05-4:05. Students are allowed to enter the building at 9:00. Students should arrive no earlier than 8:45. In the afternoons, students must be picked up by 4:15, as there is no after school supervision unless your student is participating in an organized school activity or Parks and Rec program.
School Traffic:
Traffic in the morning should pull into the loop in front of Hollymead Elementary School and drop off on the sidewalk next to the baseball field. In the afternoons, traffic will follow the same pattern. Students who are riding buses are the first to be dismissed. After buses depart, all other students will be dismissed to either walk home or be picked up. When picking up, traffic will follow in front of Lakeside Middle School and then will proceed out to Powell Creek Dr.
School Meals: Breakfast and lunch are available for a small fee. Families can add money to a cafeteria account using a check or MySchoolBucks, and students use their student ID number to pay. Students may also use cash.
Technology at Lakeside: All students will be issued a laptop and charger. They will be allowed to bring this device home to access instructional materials and complete homework.
Lakeside is Away for the Day. Students may bring cell phones to school, but they must be stored away and off during the school day.
PowerSchool: All parents will have access to ParentPortal, which is an electronic gradebook. In ParentPortal, you will be able to keep up with your student’s grades in each class as well as attendance. In the student’s gradebook, email addresses for your student’s teachers are hyperlinked so you can easily contact them if you need to.
Schoology: Think of Schoology as your student’s digital notebooks. Your student will access class notes, resources and assignments in Schoology, and may also submit some assignments through this platform, as well as through Google.
Our school day: Lakeside courses rotate on a Black day/Teal day rotation. Some classes meet every other day, while others meet every other day. We display a flag near our front entrance that will correspond with whether the day is Black or Teal; this can also be found on the school webpage. Students will acclimate very quickly to the alternating day schedule.
Clubs and After-School Activities: Albemarle County Parks and Recreation coordinates middle school sports programs throughout the year. Other school based clubs can vary from year to year and are always publicized in our weekly SharkMail newsletter. Students also have the opportunity to explore areas of interest through our CHOMP time, which takes place throughout the year for enrichment. Lastly, Lakeside coordinates several school-wide activities throughout the year. School dances, a school carnival, concerts, and drama productions are just a few highlights!
