Rising 9th Grade Information

Hello Rising 9th Grade Students and Parents:

This website has been designed to help support current LMS 8th grade students during the high school registration process for the 2026/2027 school year. Ms. Hill (students last name A-K) and Ms. Lindsay (student last name L-Z) will begin meeting with students and their families in January 2026 to assist with the course selection process and answer questions about high school. 

Helpful tips:

  • Take time to review ALL relevant information.
  • This site will continually be updated as new information is made available to us.
  • Please contact Ms. Hill or Ms. Lindsay if you have questions.

9th Grade Course Registration Timeline

  • November 14, 2025: Scholars Studio Team will provide an information session to 8th grade students during CHOMP (9:15am-9:55am).
  • November 14, 2025: Course registration information is shared with 8th grade families.
  • December 1, 2025: Course Planner opens in SchooLinks for students to select courses.
  • December 1, 2025: Albemarle High School Counselors visit during CHOMP (9:15am-9:55am).
  • December 2-3, 2025: 8th grade classroom lessons with counselors to introduce the high school transition process.
  • December 4-5, 2025: 8th graders select courses in SchooLinks Course Planner in classrooms with subject teachers.
  • December 11, 2025: Albemarle High School Curriculum Expo @ AHS
    • 5:30pm-6:00pm: Rising 9th Grade Info Session
    • 6:00pm-7:00pm: Curriculum expo
  • January 7, 2026: Course Planner closes for course registrations. 
    • Course changes after this date must be made by your school counselor.
    • Students submit Course Plans in SchooLinks during Advisory.
  • January 12-February 20, 2026: 8th grade students and families meet with their school counselor to finalize course requests and academic and career plan. 
    • SignUp Genius link coming soon.
  • March 18-31, 2026: Teacher comments due in PowerSchool
  • March 31, 2026: Last day for course request changes. 
  • May 29, 2026: By this date, teachers will review SOL scores and student requests. Teachers will contact families if a change in placement is warranted.
  • June 12, 2026: Credit acceptance and denial forms are due.

For those students interested in attending CLS next year, the school admission process is based on interest as well as a lottery system. Here are all dates for CLS admissions. You can find more information on the Community Lab website. To register for an information session, fill out this form.

High School Registration Resources

ACPS Specialized Programs

  • CATEC- Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Educational Center. Apply in 9th grade to attend in 10th grade.
  • Community Lab School- Small, liberal arts charter school grounded in student-centered learning. Has an International Baccalaureate Program (IB Program). 
  • Scholars Studios- Formerly known as Career Learning Communities (CLCs), Albemarle County Public Schools’ Scholars Program offers 14 innovative Studios within the Scholars Program, designed for students in grades 9-12 to explore career pathways aligned with their interests. 
    • ACE Academy - Seminole Place Flyer -Cybersecurity, Video & Media Technology, and Game Design.
      • ACE Academy at Seminole Place tours: The academy offers individual personalized or group tours for interested students and families. Additionally, each middle school will have group tours that 8th graders can sign up to attend during the day.   • Early College Degree Program- opportunity to earn an Associates Degree while in high school through Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses.

How to access your guardian SchooLinks account:

Your SchooLinks account has been created using the email address associated to your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account. To log into the SchooLinks account that has been created for you, please follow these instructions:

  1. Visit app.schoolinks.com
  2. Sign-in using one of the options below:
    1. If the email you use for your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account is a Google account, Click Log in with Google.
    2. For non-Google accounts, Click Forgot Password, enter the email you use for your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account, then follow the email instructions to create a password.

If you do not have a PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account, please reach out to your student's school for information about creating one. SchooLinks accounts will be created overnight once your PowerSchool Public Portal account has been created.
