General Information
Librarian: Monica Cabarcas
Email: mcabarcas@k12albemarle.org
Checkout Policy: In order to foster a community of shared resources, we typically suggest students checkout up to five items. During the first nine weeks, virtual students may find they are limited to placing two holds. This facilitates the turnaround time in preparing holds for pickup. However, students can always access additional checkouts by speaking with the librarian via email or in person.
Checkout Process: Students attending Lakeside may checkout books at any point during the school day. Virtual students may place two items on hold in the Follett Destiny Library System. Students will receive an email notification when their holds are ready for pickup. Book orders are labeled by student name and are available in the front foyer, Monday - Friday from 8:00 - 4:00. Returns may be left in the return bin in the front foyer.
Responsible Reading: In a library that serves students ranging in ages from eleven to fourteen, a wide variety of materials are needed. Obviously, what is interesting and appropriate for eleven-year-olds may not be interesting and/or appropriate for fourteen-year-olds and visa versa. When students select books, Ms. Cabarcas will issue the standard advice: "If you choose a book that makes you uncomfortable or that would make your parents uncomfortable, return it." The beauty of libraries is that they are all about choice. Find a book you can completely enjoy.
